Smedmanpriset, which is the foremost award in Swedish sport fishing, awarded by the traditional Dunkroken Guild in memory of the author and artist Rolf Smedman. Smedmanpriset 2021 awarded to Siv Sivan Jansson in Älvkarleby, fly fishing instructor then 1996 and founder of Fjällorna, 2003 the nationwide fisheries association for women. On several occasions, Sivan Jansson has visited Långå, most recently as host of a dozen selected fly fishermen in Fly Fishing in the Nordic countries “Destination Långåfisket”.
The jury's motivation states:
Fly fishing is a lifestyle close to nature with extensive and multifaceted areas of interest about life in and around our waters and the art of assimilating these values for everyday balance and harmony. It is mostly men who have engaged in fly fishing. Sivan Jansson decided to expand that relationship when she almost twenty years ago decided to organize women's fly fishing interest in the nationwide association Fjällorna.
With herself as a role model for a valuable interest and with gained experience from countless experiences of fly fishing, Sivan Jansson takes a strong position to promote the values of fly fishing among women of all ages. As an experienced association person since the age of fourteen, Sivan Jansson masters the means and methods that are able to collect, unite and engage people around a common interest. The phenomenon is a foundation in the Swedish popular movement.
Sivan Jansson's storytelling ability with pedagogy, convincing representational art has opened and opens the paths of women and the disabled to numerous fishing waters. To support the introduction of the first time, she has expertise, understanding and entrepreneurship developed their course activities for many with a lifelong meaning and enjoyment of fly fishing content.
Siv Sivan Jansson is a good heir and innovator in Rolf Smedman's spirit and view of people. ”
The interest in sport fishing is extensive in Sweden with a couple of million anglers. Percentage engaged in fly fishing, imitations of insects, is growing strongly, including the proportion of women of all ages. The perception that 'fly fishing' is complicated and advanced can easily be changed with knowledge and practice in casting technique. Getting help to avoid the most common 'mistakes' from the beginning opens the way to a rewarding and broad area of interest.
Sivan Jansson's efforts as an introducer and educator are admirable. Her own experiences of a stroke broadened her understanding and need for constructive help for those who experience limitations in their physical ability.. Fly fishing is possible for everyone!
It is with pride and warm congratulations to Siv Sivan Jansson that Dunkrokens Gille hands over 2021 year honorary diploma in memory of Rolf Smedman, says Helge Jonsson, Gillesmästare i Dunkrokens Gille.
