The County Administrative Board in Jämtland County has decided to support Project Långåljusnan with half a million of the grant for fisheries conservation measures.
This means an extensive boost for the project, which started in the last days of July when the fire safety situation had improved.
– We interpret that as tangible recognition for our project and the investment it contains, says Per-Ola Persson, quality manager in Långåfisket and project manager with Allan Blomkvist as convener of the project board.
Gunnar Jacobsson participates from the county board, among other things as an expert and with solid experience from similar projects where watercourses have been restored to production conditions that can be compared to the natural conditions, apart from a lower water flow.
Through the measures, it is hoped to be able to recover biotopes for fish and other aquatic organisms, which at the same time provide new places for fishing. The municipality of Härjedalen also participates in the project, both with expertise and parts of the grant that Sportfiskarna granted the municipality for fisheries conservation measures.
– Långåljusnan has great and untapped potential as a natural fishing lake despite the serious interventions made due to floating and hydropower, says Helge Jonsson, chairman of the fishing association. It goes without saying that we must do everything possible and reasonable to recreate the best conditions for the fish and thus also for the fisherman, he says.
The total funding for the Långåljusnan project then amounts to 750 000 SEK, since the fishing association's board had already previously set aside received village funds and own funds for the project.
– We have long experience of concrete and good cooperation with the county administrative board in Jämtland County, says Helge Jonsson, including in the Grundsjö project, which aims to secure the future of the aforementioned Grundsjörödingen. That project also includes Fortum as the main sponsor.
– That the county administrative board uses the state fisheries conservation grant for this type of investment is society's way of mitigating the consequences of the activities that the state and the courts have allowed. It is both reasonable and self-evident that the taxpayers should be involved and contribute to that financing, says Helge Jonsson.
The investment also includes measures from Långåfisket's cultural program, where Margareta Selin-Ring is responsible on the association's board and manager of the venture. The aim is to highlight culturally and historically interesting remains that contribute to making the fishing trip an even greater experience and offer the sense of belonging that the fisherman feels with Långåfisket and the area.
Långåljusnan is called the part of Ljusnan that is part of the Långå fishery management area. Since it is a separate part that is delimited by two power plant dams, one can count on the emergence of features such as the Ljusnanöringen in the river. In order to keep that population at an appropriate level, Långåfisket is starting an investment in growing its own trout. The plans are to upgrade a previously constructed spawning pond, take rum and milk from trout in Långåljusnan and put out eye-pointed rum in special cassettes, partly in the pond, partly in tributaries that empty into Långåljusnan. That investment will be part of the Långåljusnan project and in line with Långåfisket's fisheries management plan, which assumes that only native fish species will benefit within the Långå Fisheries Management Area.
