The experiences from the fishing year 2017 stored in the repository of memories and fishing year 2018 begins! A new year is always a noticeable event. A time of summation and reflection, but at the same time an opportunity for perspective and longing for what is to come in the new year. New ambitions, ideas, planer! Now it will be gone, we decide!
summer 2017 will not be remembered as a time of good fishing, Oh well, there are of course exceptions, but the prevailing weather did not attract as many fishing days as normal. One might wonder if a fisherman cares much about the weather. This hardy and patient crowd that finds openings in the weather report that make the fishing trip and the fishing the experience it always is.
But there were fewer fishing days this year. Not just in Långå. Other fisheries conservation areas have the same experience. And the first thought that arises: is there something wrong with our fishing? It is a serious thought that leads to musings of many kinds. Why did it happen the way it did?? Is there something that we can correct? In case of ice, what do we do then?? We are convinced that Långåfisket is
appreciated.
It sounds a bit bureaucratic to talk about analysis, when it comes to such an emotionally saturated phenomenon as sport fishing and its practitioners. But a board for a fishery management area is always faced with facts that require reliable data to be able to be handled. We can't do anything about the weather, or is it possible to handle the impact of even such a force of nature? And, probably. In any case, it's worth playing with the idea, or rather, the concern.
Långå fisheries conservation area covers five square miles. It is a large area with around fifty lakes, tarns and seals. In addition, four and a half miles of flowing water. The majority flows in the 'right direction' in the dominant westerly winds. And the ponds generally have shelters even on a windy day. There are changing weather conditions everywhere. The wind is not the same everywhere. There are always shelters even when the meteorologists promise sustained winds that would prevent a fly fisherman from pinpointing his casts. And you don't always have to throw far. Overcast and rain are good fishing weather! And we can actually recommend a reliable selection of particularly suitable 'stagväsflôgôr' (storm flies). And we have 25 windbreaks and countless sheltered clearings along the shores.
Is it time to produce your own weather map for Långåfisket? A map that interprets, applies and advises on the angler's possibilities in varying weather. And, Why not! Långå residents are experienced weather observers with a collective knowledge as a valuable asset. There are resources in the village. The simple conclusion is that it is possible to do something about anything possible, even managing the fishing weather. And then we do it!
Welcome to Långåfisket 2018!
