Långå Fiskevårdsområrds Förening had its annual meeting on 30 March with around twenty participants. The board was re-elected and discharged from liability for the past financial year. Therese Öberg was elected as the new auditor, Långå.
The year of operation 2022 contained extensive work with restorations of biotopes for the original and wild fish species that are the very foundation of the well-known Långå fishing. That orientation is based on the three focus areas that apply to the fisheries conservation association to preserve, nurture and use fisheries as a natural resource worth protecting.
Last year's turnover amounted to 1,3 million, of which 400 000 SEK is income from the sale of fishing licenses. 800 000 kroner are investments in biotope- and fish conservation measures. Per-Ola Persson, who is responsible for quality on the board and Långåfisket's River Keeper stated that implemented measures in Långåljusnan's current sections seem to be able to provide a good regrowth of the local strain of Ljusnanöring. At the same time, it is noted that there are too many fish in several of the fishing waters, which means that the fisheries association must invest in catching and 'regrouping'’ of that surplus to other waters within the fisheries management area.
Allan Blomkvist, who runs measures including reduction fishing for whitefish in Grundsjön, said that last year's whitefish catch amounted to approximately 4 000 sieves with an average weight of between five and six hecto. The so-called k-factor, which is the ratio between the fish's length and weight, has increased significantly in recent years. It does not only apply to visibility, but is more gratifying for char, trout and perch. The fat content in the fish increases and this means greater taste experiences. Problems with the use of Russian during last year's low water levels are assumed to persist in the coming summer. Therefore, a transition to floating Russia is planned, an investment on 150 000 SEK. The summer's fishing will otherwise be carried out in the usual way with 1,2 kilometer, six meters deep, floating net. The by-catch of other fish species is only 3 % which is very favorable considering Grundsjörödingen. All whitefish caught from Lake Grundsjön are deposited locally in Härjedalen. Among them, the municipality of Härjedalen takes a ton to canteens in schools and nursing homes in line with its ecological orientation.
Helge Jonsson presented his thoughts and ongoing work on being able to restore the expanded Mittån downstream of the Grundsjödam into a functioning watercourse in a new format but with biologically reasonable conditions for fish and other aquatic organisms. The inventory of conditions and possibilities will continue throughout the year. The meeting expressed its approval of the idea.
